Splash Zone"The Sally Lightfoot Crabs live on the wave swept coastal lava on all the islands of the Galapagos. They are often present in large numbers on rock platforms and in the splash zone at and above the high-water mark. They are extremely agile, can jump from rock to rock, and even appear to walk on water. Only a tiny percentage of larvae survive to adulthood but each female can lay thousands of tiny eggs. Here they share their rock platform with a Galapagos Sea Lion. She will flick them away if they come too close."
