A Glimpse of Life on Lambay Island

Lambay Island, lying 3 miles off the coast of north County Dublin, is one of the most important seabird colonies in Ireland. It plays host to Kittiwakes, Razorbills, Gulls, Puffins, Manx Shearwaters, Shell Duck, Cormorants and Shags during the breeding season each year. It has established the largest Guillemot colony in Ireland and,since 2007, a steadily growing Gannet colony. Fallow Deer, Wallabies, Grey Seals and Common Seals also add interest to the island.

Na Redlegs - The Invisible Irish in Barbados

In 1636 a ship sailed out of Kinsale bound for Barbados. Its cargo? Sixty-one Irish people destined to join thousands of others as indentured servants. An estimated 50,000 “white slaves” were transported from Ireland to Barbados between 1652 and 1657. Having succeeded in recruiting Irish men to die in the services of France, Spain, Poland and Italy, Cromwell turned his attention to others – men and women press-ganged by soldiers, taken to Cork and shipped to Bristol where they were sold as slaves and transported to Barbados.

Island Magic

The Island Magic exhibition features imagery of the the Blasket and Skellig islands, and was launched at the Blasket Heritage Centre on April 30th by Padraig Kennelly, a photographer for over 50 years who established the newspaper Kerry’s Eye in Tralee in 1974. Sheena has collaborated with Marina Cassidy to produce a wonderful visual and aural representation of the beauty that exists on the islands. It is a unique and moving presentation. Marina, who is undoubtedly one of Ireland’s finest exponents of solo performance with voice and harp brings a new dimension to the exhibitions images.

Music of Nature

Officially opened by Éamon de Buitléar, naturalist, musician, filmmaker and broadcaster at The Grain Store, Ballymaloe House. The exhibition "The Music of Nature' was by Sheena Jolley in collaboration with renowned harpist and singer Marina Cassisy. Marina and Sheena worked together to produce an aesthetic experience of sight and sound.
