BARBADOS GREEN MONKEY STRIPPING BARK

Barbados Green Monkey.jpg - Having dropped her young momentarily I crept forward and hoped the adult Green Monkey would go for her young rather than me. They are very protective of their young so I was taking a risk that she might reprehend me first. She swiftly snatched the monkey off the ground and thankfully only gave me a curious look.Taken in St. Andrew in the north of Barbados.

Brown Pelican Preening.jpg - This young Brown Pelican was perched high on the branches of a tree growing out of the cliffs in Anguilla. He paid great attention to preening his feathers. The sanstone cliffs behind made an ideal background for a portrait shot. The large distendible pouch is used as a scoop to gather fish.

Magnificent Frigatebird.jpg - One of the largest colonies of Magnificent Frigatebirds is to be found in Barbuda which is a very flat coral island to the North East of Antigua. It is surrounded by miles of coral reef and shallow water. The colony itself is only accessible by small boat 4 miles to the north of the island across a shallow saltwater lagoon. They are locally known as Man of War bird. They are hawks of the sea relying on speed and agility to gather food from the ocean surface. This is an adult female catching food for her young chick. It is mainly the female bird which is the hunter gatherer while the male sits on the nest minding the chick.

MAGNIFICENT FRIGATEBIRD

Man of War Bird.jpg - Few birds can match the aerial supremacy of Frigatebirds and these huge black birds spend much of their waking life on the wing. I wanted to capture the contrasting forms of a bird perched on a branch and in flight to convey their size and power. It meant a 4 mile trip across a lagoon before dawn in Barbuda

THOROUGH GROOMING ( BARBADOS GREEN MONKEY

Yellow Fever (Bananaquit).jpg - The Century Plant takes 10 Years to flower and this happens in the month of April in Antigua in the West indies. I spotted this Bananaquit surrounded and well camouflaged by the big flowers. It punctures the bases of flowers to feed on the nectar and it seems fitting that the locals also call him the Sugar Bird.
