Blue-Footed Booby Courtship.jpg - The Blue-Footed Booby displays one of the funniest courtships in the bird world. They lift their feet one at a time and wave them in the air. Their unflattering name came about because seafarers found them easy to kill at their ground nests. This was taken at Punta Suarez in the Galapagos which must be the only place you can now get close to them.

Galapagos Sea Lion and pup.jpg - I managed to catch this tender moment of a Galapagos Sea lion with her pup just before leaving Hood Island in the evening.Normally a cow will spend the first week of their pup's life bonding with it but I took this shot in April when the pup must have been at least five months. The cow had been suckling the pup but it was fun to capture what appears to be a moment of tender affection. The Galapagos Seal Lion is categorised in the 2006 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Vulnerable.

Golden Rays.jpg - Rays are harmless filter feeders that wing through the water near the surface and scoop up mouthfuls of tiny plankton. I shot this in Black Turtle Bay off Santa Cruez in the Galapagos. The rays were winging silently along the surface of the water. One could not get this view of the rays from within the water. The Golden Ray is categorised in the 2006 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Near Threatened.

Green Sea Turtle.jpg - I shot this turtle from a boat in Elizabeth Bay, Isabela Island in the Galapagos. The light was good, the colours provided by the shell which varied from blackish to olive-brown and even yellowish, the rounded spotted head, and the wonderful reflections of the mangroves in the water all contributed to providing the colour and pattern for this image. It is categorised in the 2009 IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Endangered.

Hood Marine Iguana.jpg - A close up portrait shot of a Hood Marine Iguana. This shot of Marine Iguanas was taken on Fernandina Island in the Galapagos in the early morning. The Iguana sits upright to eject fine plumes of spray from his nostril to rid his body of ingested sea salt and prevent dehydration. This upright posture gives him a lofty appearance which lends itself to a black and white portrait.
The Marine Iguana is categorised in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Vulnerable.

WAVED ALBATROSS ON NEST

Waved Albatross.jpg - The world's entire population of Waved Albatross come to the Galapagos purely to breed. They come specifically to Punta Suarez on Hood Island which is a flat open area near high cliffs that face into the prevailing winds. Take-off is achieved by running into the wind or simply dropping off the cliff and opening their great wings.
