The Mermaid I photographed this Grey Seal in October on the islands off the west of Ireland. The pups are born on the rocky shore and spend a few months there before going to sea. They are vulernable both on the rocky shoreline and when taking that big plunge into the ocean. This was a wonderful moment taken when the pup was playing contentedly in a rock pool and at ease in my presence.The size of his outstretched tail was enormous and I was left in no doubt of the origin of the mermaid myth.
